The other day we performed a land survey in Newton, Massachusetts, for a new home construction. Land surveyors contribute many valuable services to the new home construction process, including boundary surveys, site design and layout, and construction staking. In essence, the land surveyor assists with quality control. Sometimes we will work with the builder or architect and other times with the homeowner. We may work with the builder to review the site design and layout, including the proposed location, design and elevations for the new construction. We will also perform field staking and prepare a certified property survey for the city or town’s building permit review. The new home construction process can be a very exciting one and a land surveyor can help to identify any issues such as encroachments, discrepancies in land area, undeclared easements or missing boundary corners prior to building.
