We have been very busy over the past year with requests for elevation certificates throughout Massachusetts. FEMA frequently updates their flood maps. Many properties are newly designated as flood hazards as a result. Over a two-day period this past weekend, we completed a whopping 7 Massachusetts elevation certificates. That included 2 elevation certificates in Hull, 1 elevation certificate in Quincy, 1 elevation certificate in Revere, 1 elevation certificate in Weymouth, 1 elevation certificate in Milton, and 1 elevation certificate in South Boston. These were for a mix of residential and commercial properties.
Flood zone designations are based on entire areas rather than individual property elevations. For this reason, many properties are able to be removed from the flood zone with the completion of an elevation certificate by a licensed land surveyor.
